About Us

The French writer Emile Zola was once asked why he wrote. He replied that as an artist, he felt driven to "live out loud."

I have always loved using words to the higher purpose. I delight in projects where I can pour my heart into the writing. My goal is to deliver compelling copy about your topics.

My business serves customers interested in hiring a writer who can bring their project to the next level. I provide quality writing, on your schedule. My fee is based on a case-by-case assessment of the work required to complete the job.

I am a journalist and author who for 30 years covered events in Congress, at the White House, and on the presidential campaign trail for the Los Angeles Times and USA Today.

I wrote a popular blog for www.latimes.com called Countdown to Crawford, which tracked the last days of the Bush administration. Technorati ranked it among the top 1% of blogs. I also wrote for the Times' top political blog, called Top of the Ticket.

I am also the author of a book about technology and international affairs, chronicling the impact of media inventions from Johann Gutenberg’s printing press to Bill Gates’s computer software. The book, Lights, Camera, War: Is Media Technology Driving International Politics?, is widely used in journalism schools. I have lectured at the National War College, and taught courses at George Washington University, Georgetown University and the Corcoran College of Art + Design.

A native of Los Angeles, I served as White House correspondent for USA Today during the Reagan and Bush administrations and as well as State Department correspondent during Secretary of State James Baker’s tenure.  I was president of the White House Correspondents’ Association and a Nieman Fellow at Harvard. I was also a fellow at the Atlantic Council, where I wrote a monograph on the media’s role in the revolution in Eastern Europe in 1989.

Finally, I am co-author of three mystery novels set in Washington--Knight & Day, Press Corpse and Death With Honors.
